[ARCHIVED] STEM Open Space Tour

A walking path cuts through a forest.

Please join Save the Environment of Moorestown (STEM) and the Moorestown Department of Parks and Recreation as we visit three of Moorestown’s premier open spaces on Sunday, October 15th. (Don’t worry, the Eagles don’t play to 4:25).

We’ll gather at 11:45 a.m.  at the Parks and Recreation building across from the library where we’ll board a bus for our first stop at Esther Yanai Preserve. We’ll walk the trail loop, show casing the flora and fauna of this open space, along with the multiple trail improvements that have happened over the last couple of years. Perhaps we’ll be lucky and sight a Pileated woodpecker, which are regularly seen in this preserve.

From Esther Yanai we’ll head over to Swede Run Fields to tour the award-winning native pollinator garden and discuss the project to convert the big field across Westfield Road into a 75-acre native grassland and pollinator field. We’ll also enjoy refreshments at this site.

We’ll finish the tour at the South Valley Woods preserve. This preserve has some of the most unique flora found in any of Moorestown’s open space. We’ll walk the yellow trail, which loops around a portion of the preserve.

If you can’t take the whole tour, you are welcome to visit any of the sites between 12 and 2, where we’ll have a STEM volunteer available to guide you on your way. If you’d like to participate in a guided walk at any of the sites, here is the day’s schedule.

11:45 – Bus departs from Parks and Recreation parking lot across from the library.

12:00 to 12:35 - Tour Esther Yanai Preserve

12:40 to 1:15 - Refreshments and tour of Native Pollinator Garden at Swede Run Fields

1:20 to 2:00 – Tour South Valley Woods and return to Parks and Recreation Parking Lot

Space on the bus will be limited, so please sign up on the Parks and Recreation Website to guarantee a seat.
