Sports – Team Leagues
The winter is one of busiest times of the year for the Recreation Department with basketball leagues for grades 2-8 boys and girls and 9-12 Boys. We offer many volleyball programs, basketball, music, robotics and more. We are indoors at the Church Street Recreation Center, William Allen Middle School and Upper Elementary School with many of our programs.
Basketball Leagues
Grades 9-12 Boys, 8 week season with games scheduled on Sundays.
Grades 3-8 Boys and Girls, 8 week season with one practice per week and one game every Saturday. Week night practices are schedule Monday through Thursday based on the availability of the volunteer coach. Games are scheduled at 3 different locations and begin the second Saturday of January.
Grade 2 Boys and Girls, 8 week season with trainer run clinic and scrimmage on Saturdays. Clinics/Scrimmages are held at the Upper Elementary School where the baskets are lowered to 8 ½ feet. Players will be assigned a team and coach.
Volleyball League High School – Informal league for High School players. No experience required, 2 hours of volleyball every Friday night. Referees provided, teams are balanced every night depending on who is in attendance.
Sports – Clinics
Volleyball Clinics – Grades 3-8 all levels welcome to work on their skills. Local top volleyball trainers will work with the children on passing, setting and hitting. Clinic is at the Church Street Recreation Center on Friday nights.
Basketball 1st Grade Clinic – Introduction to basketball for 1st Grade Boys and Girls, one hour clinic at the Upper Elementary School where the baskets are lowered to 8 ½ feet.
Basketball Clinics – Introduction to Recreation Basketball. This clinic starts the first week of January for children in grades 2-8. It’s held at the Church Street Recreation Center one week before the season begins.
Arts & Sciences
Woodworking - Annual Woodworking project Grades 2-3. Children will construct a wood project in this 2day workshop (i.e. birdhouse, bird feeder, tool box) with provided lumber, hammer and nails!!!
Art - K-3rd grades. Held at the Church Street Recreation Center. Seasonally themed art instruction includes drawing, painting and other fun art projects and mediums. Single day classes available on days when school is not in session.
Culinary – Grades 2-8. Classes are held on after school and on school holidays. Moorestown Rec’s “Community Kitchen” is a commercial-grade kitchen. Baking and culinary classes are generally based on seasonal ingredients and themes. “Scratch made” is emphasized as well as healthy, delicious meals to share with the family. Classes range from building gingerbread houses to fresh pasta to sushi.
Dance – 2 1/2 to 4 years old and ages 5-9 classes. Creative Dance and Tap/Ballet for the younger ages are held at the Church Street Recreation Center. Hip Hop/Jazz classes for the 5-9 year olds are held after school. Creative dance and Kids Movement (younger age must be accompanied by an adult) are designed to strengthen motor skills, coordination and flexibility. The children will have fun learning colors and numbers too.
Pottery - Grades 3-6. Classes are held on the 3rd floor of the Church Street Recreation Center after school. Learn the fundamental concepts and techniques of ceramics - slab-building, hand-building and coil-building.
Robotics – Grades K-6. Classes are held on the 3rd floor of the Church Street Recreation Center after school and on Saturdays. There is a range of classes from building Legos and nanobots; designing objects to be printed on a 3D printer. Create games with Minecraft, learn to code with SCRATCH (by MIT) and more. Laptops will be supplied.
