COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM

Local government prepares for everyday emergencies. However, during a disaster, the number and scope of incidents can overwhelm conventional emergency services. The Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) program is an all-risk, all-hazard training. This valuable course is designed to help you protect yourself, your family, your neighbors and your neighborhood in an emergency situation.

C.E.R.T. is a positive and realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations where citizens may initially be on their own and their actions can make a difference. While people will respond to others in need without the training, one goal of the C.E.R.T. program is to help them do so effectively and efficiently without placing themselves in unnecessary danger. In the C.E.R.T. training, citizens learn to:

  • Manage utilities and put out small fires.
  • Provide basic medical aid, and treat the three medical killers by opening airways, controlling bleeding, and treating for shock.
  • Organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective, and collect disaster intelligence to support first responder efforts.

The Township of Moorestown C.E.R.T. training is being developed and we are forming a list of residents interested in taking part in the program. If you are interersted in becoming part of the C.E.R.T. team, please use the following downloads to obtain a C.E.R.T. Registration Form .

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT FOR DOMESTIC LIVESTOCK
The Township's Department of Emergency Management is currently in the process of determining the location and number of animals that would need care and/or shelter in the event of a disaster within the Township. Such animals would include livestock and domestic pets (excluding dogs, as they are tracked by annual licensing). We are interested in identifying volunteers, transportation assets, and temporary shelter locations for these animals. Ms. Dottie Allen from Woodedge Stables will be assisting in the development of this project. She can be reached at Woodedge Stables. Additional information may be obtained from the Police Department by calling 235-0130. Please direct any questions or comments to either Detective Lee Lieber or Patrolman Peter Parker.

STORM DAMAGE PROCEDURE INFORMATION

The Division of Building and Inspections, and the Office of Emergency Management needs to relay important information to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In order for residents to qualify for a low interest loan, FEMA must be notified, within 24 hours, when structural damage is incurred as the result of a natural disaster in which a Disaster Declaration is to be made. If your home or business incurs damage, please contact the Division of Building and Inspections at 235-0912 Ext. 3018, as soon as possible. A team of damage assessors will be sent out to estimate the cost of repair and replacement, and help you with your application.
