The Wonders of China.  Explore the Wonders of China as we create a Dragon Puppet for the Chinese New Year, a traditional Panda Watercolor and learn about the mysterious Terracotta Warriors of the Qin Shi Huang Dynasty.

BASKETBALL CLINIC - WINTER - Grade 1 (Girls and Boys)


The fundamental skills of basketball including dribbling, passing, as well as rebounding and shooting techniques will be emphasized. The program is not a league, though informal scrimmages may be arranged in a teaching situation.

BAKING - HOMEMADE IS THE BEST WAY - February 11


What is better than homemade gifts??  Participants will make homemade gifts for Valentine's Day.  Chef Katie will lead the children who will make strawberry preserves, herbal tea bags and bath bombs.  The children will return home with 6 homemade wrapped items to give as gifts or enjoy for themselves.

This program is designed to help adolescent students learn culinary practices and fundamentals they can build upon.The children will prepare fast food knock offs including chicken nuggets and quick Mexican meals.  DATE: Wednesday, February 20. CULINARY - PASTA WORKSHOP


This program is designed to help adolescents learn culinary practices and fundamentals they can build upon.  Chef Katie will lead this group of "junior foodies" as they explore new and exciting pasta dishes.  In this 3 hour workshop, the children will learn how to make manicotti and other pasta from scratch.  Filling for manicotti and sauce will be made from scratch as well.  Pantry items have been generously donated by Wegmans.

CULINARY - SCHOOL'S OFF, REC'S ON - Stromboli, Pizza


Throughout the school year there are a number of days in which school is closed.  Students will prepare pizza dough from scratch, assemble their own personal pizza and then work together to make Stromboli and Garlic Knots.  Food prepared at home will be available to take home and enjoy afterwards.  Pantry items have been generously donated by Wegmans.

Throughout the school year there are a number of days in which school is closed and the rec dept will offer various programs.  Students will prepare a delicious multi layered lasagna (beef, tomato sauce, ricotta, mozzarella cheese).  Food prepared at home will be available to take home and enjoy afterwards.  Pantry items have been generously donated by Wegmans.  GRADES: 3-8. CSI - CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION - February 23 


This class is for students who have an interest in law enforcement or related forensic sciences.  Students will learn problem solving using physics, geometry, triangles and the Pythagorean theorem, simple algebraic math, sin/cosine problems relating to blood spatter and bullet trajectory, and other science disciplines that relate to solving a crime scene.  After the classroom portion of the lecture, students will identify and process a mock crime scene by collecting evidence using the most up-to-date modern techniques and methodologies taught during the the lecture portion of the class.

DANCE: CREATIVE DANCE LESSONS, (Ages 3-4) - WINTER SESSION


Class includes fun songs and activities for gross motor development.  Various props are utilized such as crowns, wands, parachutes, bean bags, ribbons and more.  An introduction to pre-ballet, jazz and tap is presented.  Focus is on listening, following directions, rhythm, musicality, movement and fun.

DANCE: CREATIVE DANCE - "MOMMY AND ME" (Ages 24-36 months) - WINTER SESSION


Our Mommy and Me class gives parents and children an opportunity to bond through dance, song, and creative movement.  Children will receive an introduction to dance with stretching exercises, imagination and creative play with the use of sensory props improving gross motor skills.  This class also offers young children their first look in a classroom setting, improving social interaction.

ROBOTICS - NANO BOTS - Grades K to 3


NANO BOTS curriculum employs LEGO based kits appropriate for hands-on building and programming projects that introduce STEM and Art concepts in a fun manner.  Students start understanding what Robotic Systems are capable of as well as Sensors (utilize motion, distance, tilt) & basic programming with an easy to use Drag and Drop Program. They utilize sound and text blocks to trouble shoot and interact with people in their projects.  The projects themselves are about various themes from the Animal kingdom, soccer playing robots to making useful simple machines and racing cars that react to movements and objects.   The children will be provided a laptop to use during class.   Free make up session during final week.

ROBOTICS - 3D PRINTING - Grades 3 to 5


Our experienced CAD and 3D printing instructor will guide the kids step by step on how to use Google Sketch Up to create simple and fun CAD projects.  Students will learn how easy it is for one to turn their own imagination into plastic reality! Make houses, buildings, toy planes and much more. Free make up session during final week.

ROBOTICS - SCRATCH - Grades 3 to 5


Kids learn to create their own computer games and fun animations with SCRATCH using “drag and drop programming”.  SCRATCH, developed by MIT, helps young kids learn to think creatively, reason systematically and work collaboratively – essential skills for life in the 21st century.  We also have unique programs that enable the kids to Control LEGO robots from SCRATCH! Color coded, intuitive drag and drop block programming, as well as sounds, backdrop images and drawings are used.  All materials will be provided for use during class. Free make up session during final week.

Ignite participant engagement and energize learning through real-life problem solving.  Engage participants in computer science, science, technology, engineering, and math.  Boost learning curves and help students reach their curriculum targets.  With LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 hands-on, minds-on approach, the only challenge will be getting the participants to leave at the end of class. VOLLEYBALL CLINIC - WINTER (Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8)


The clinics will be held on Friday evenings (5:30-7:00) at the Church Street Recreation Center beginning Friday, January 4th through March 8th (no class 1/18, 2/15). The clinics will stress fundamentals of play through instruction and drills. No previous experience is necessary. Girls and boys will learn techniques for passing, serving, setting, and basic hitting. Volleyballs will be provided for use during the clinics.

John Grossman.  John has 17 years coaching experience with players from ages 8-18.  He currently coaches a HS team in PA and is the technical director for the Cherry Hill Volleyball Club where he also head coaches 2 teams.  Beyond coaching, John played professionally indoors and outdoors for 10+ years.  He subscribes to USA volleyball best practices and volunteers with the USA Volleyball Olympic Team.

WOOD WORKING - Grades 2 & 3


Come join us on the 3rd floor of the Church Street Recreation Center for our annual Wood Working Workshop with Instructors Pete and Julie Bender, owners of the Moorestown Hardware Store. The Benders will be instructing the children on wood working techniques, tool use, safety and how to build a wood project.  The project planned for this year is a birdhouse.
