BAKING - INTRO TO....PIES, SCONES AND MOR

This four week course will cover baking pies (homemade pastry dough), scones, yeast breads and quick breads from scratch.  If you have taken Diane's class before, recipes will be changed for new challenges.

Diane has entered the world of culinary arts following a distinguished career as an educator.  Having retired from the State of NJ, she has continued her education by becoming a Certified Master Gardener and a Serv Safe Certified Baker.  A self-taught baker, Diane has mastered pies, scones and yeast breads over 45 years of practice.  Diane has a passion for fresh, healthy, whole foods and looks forward to sharing her knowledge with today's youth.
 
 

BAKING BASICS AND MORE -  Spring Session


This four week course will cover the basics of baking and expand on prior knowledge.  Children, through hands on learning, will fine tune their measurements, ratios and proportions and be given more challenging recipes.  Recipes include pies, cookies, cupcakes, and quick breads.  Food prepared in class will be taken home and enjoyed!!

CHILDREN'S CULINARY COOKING CLASS  - FLAVORS OF THE WORLD

 
This program is designed to help adolescent students learn culinary practices and fundamentals that they can build upon.  Chef Katie will lead this group of “junior foodies” as they explore fun and easy recipes. The first class students will learn the basics of sushi making and will take home one California roll and one Special roll.  The second class students will get creative with spices and herbs while creating their ideal enchilada and sauce.  The third class will draw inspiration from many parts of Asia when crafting their own fillings and sauces for perfect pot stickers and dumplings.

DANCE - CREATIVE DANCE LESSONS - AGES 3-4


Classes meet one a week for 45 minutes and include fun songs and activities for gross motor skill development.  Various props are utilized such as crowns, wands, parachutes, bean bags, ribbons and more.  An introduction to Pre-Ballet is pressented.   Focus is on listening, following directions, rhythm, musicality, movement and fun.

INSTRUCTOR

: Sommer Bayard (instructor/choreographer).  Sommer graduated from Stockton University with a BA in Public Relations and a minor in Performing Arts.  Sommer has a wide range of disciplines including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, modern, Babywearing Barre and Bender Barre.  She has performed in New York City and Disney World.  Sommer currently teaches a variety of classes locally, working with all ages.

RECOMMENDED

: black or solid-colored leotard, ballet pink or carmel capezio tights, pink split-sole canvas/skirt (optional) and leather ballet slippers. HAIR SHOULD BE IN A PONYTAIL OR BUN

 

GIRLS B FIT - Winter,  Session 2


Girls B Fit is a fun and active class filled with games, relays, obstacle courses, fitness stations and activities that will improve fitness levels, agility, balance coordination, quickness, core strength and flexibility while learning more about taking care of the body and mind.  Participants will create neuromuscular connections that will benefit them for life in all sports and physical activities, while having lots of FUN!

LACROSSE CLINIC/LEAGUE - SPRING, 2017 - Girls, Grades 2-3


Recreation lacrosse program for girls in grades 2-3.  Registration is limited to 52 players, so register early.  Girls play on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Requests for team placement may not be honored, as all report on the same day at the same time.

Equipment

- a mouthpiece and goggles are required and are mandatory at all practices and games. Girls will not be permitted to play without a mouthpiece and goggles. Girls should also wear sneakers or cleats. (no metal) All other equipment including lacrosse sticks and balls will be provided by the Rec Dept. No disposable water bottles or plastic sports bottles allowed on fields.

SUMMER - ART CAMP - Kindergarten - 5th Grade


The art camp is a week of workshop lessons involving a wide array of mediums including: Science Art, Arts and Crafts, Painting, Drawing, 3-D Sculptural Art, Group Mural. Participants will create age appropriate art projects designed to promote their inner creativity.

Led by a certified teacher, your four year old will be surrounded by a caring and passionate staff to ensure their safety and security throughout the summer.

Looking for something for the kids to do during the summer months, sign up for the Summer Parks Program.  Children will participate in arts and crafts, sports and other fun activities at local sites.  Field trips are optional and will be available at an additional cost.  Trip details will be available in February.

Missy Mercer - Missy is a USPTR Certified Instructor with teaching experience at Cherry Hill Health & Racquet Club, Green Valley Tennis Club, Riverton Country Club, South Jersey Tennis Center and the Moorestown Parks & Recreation. Missy has also had extensive USTA playing experience and specializes in singles and doubles strategy.
George Crouse - George has taught tennis as a full time professional for the last 15 years.  He is an elite certified professional of the USPTA.  He played tennis at Fairfield University in Connecticut and currently teaches tennis full time at the Moorestown Tennis Club.  George has a teaching philosophy of creating a fun learning environment.

TUMBLIN' TOTS 

Mommy & Me(18 months to 2 1/2 years) - Fun fitness designed to improve motor skills and coordination while having fun and developing social skills. Parents will assist with rhythm activities and ball play including activities such as obstacle courses and parachute games. 
(2 1/2 - 4 year olds)- The program is designed to make fitness fun for children. With exercise hidden within play-based actitivies, your child will build motor skills and coordination, while having fun and developing social skills. Activities will include weekly greeting and stretch, cardio warm ups with props and music, obstacle course, parachute play, and more...It is a goal to see that each child experiences feeling of success during each class, leading to a life-long love of being active and fit. Parents are required to stay and participate when necessary.

Instructor

: John Grossman.  John has 15 years coahcing experience with players form 8-18  He currently coaches a HS team in PA and is the technical director for Cherry Hill Volleyball Club where he also head coaches 2 teams. Beyond coaching, John played professionally indoors and outdoors for 10+ years.  He subscribes to volleyball best practices and volunteers with the USA Volleyball Olympic team.


WOOD WORKING WORKSHOP - Grades 2-3


Come join us on the 3rd floor of the Church Street Recreation Center for a fun activity for boys and girls in grades 2nd and 3rd. Instructor Peter Bender, owner of the Moorestown Hardware Store, will be instructing the children on wood working techniques, tool use and safety. Sophia Geiger, our resident arts and crafts supervisor, will assist children in the final process of the project by painting their finished works. The project is a Spring Planter Box.
