INSTRUCTOR: Eugenia Porello. Born and raised in Argentina EUGENIA PORELLO started on her artistic journey as early as she can remember. She arrived in the US in late 1999. A Moorestown resident since 2008, her artistic career keeps evolving with every turn that her life takes. Porello graduated with a degree as a Teacher of English from Universidad Nacional de Córdoba and later completed her Masters in Applied Spanish from TCNJ. Primarily a self-taught visual artist, Porello started showing her work in the streets of Córdoba, and in 1997 she embarked on her first trip abroad. Santa Cruz, CA, London, Amsterdam, Munich, and Italy (Bologna, Modena, Ginosa, Taranto) are locations where she showcased her portraits. While in Venice Beach, CA, Porello met her match: paint, canvas and color. She seldom returns to charcoal or portraiture, but her past drawing experience built a strong compositional foundation that is evident in her acrylic, oil and mixed media paintings today.
In November of 1999, Porello’s credentials and bilingualism were key to bringing her to the US as a Spanish teacher (in Plainfield, NJ, later in Hillsborough and since 2004, serving Princeton Public Schools). As it turns out, language education was also a great venue to channel Sra. Porello’s (as her students call her) creativity. As for Porello the bead artist, this is just another facet of her love for creating beauty, and seeking harmony and originality. As a teenager, she taught herself how to sew, knit and crochet, and would only wear clothing that had "her signature touches". The reach into creating accessories was only a natural occurrence. At some point Porello began to deconstruct, decode jewelry, and soon new unique pieces would emerge almost mindlessly as if they had always been meant to be together. No matter where the individual pieces came from (a broken piece given by a friend, a piece found at yard sale or at a dutch auction), once together they would always seem to have a unique moment to seal, a special story to tell. That's how BeadAmoment was born! Porello not only seeks color, composition and harmony, but especially cherishes pieces born out of estranged yet meaningful bits. Come join her, bring your tired, forgotten, unwanted beads and give them a chance to tell a new story... your story.
